Our Mission

50 years in the purebred industry

In 2024 the Lingley’s celebrate 50 years in the purebred industry. Bill and William Lingley founded Double L Farms in 1974, near Adrossan AB, Canada. The Limousin breed, which was new to Canada at the time, peaked the interest of the Lingley family. Through the years they produced numerous champions and sale toppers. When Embryo Transfer techniques were new to North America, the Lingley’s were some of the first involved in utilizing this science to produce superior cattle genetics and worked exporting Red Angus embryo’s across the world. Fullblood Limousin cattle have been a passion for the Lingley’s and in the 2000’s they had on of the largest Fullblood Limousin herds in Canada at the time.

The farm is now located in the hills of Irma AB, Canada and operates under Lingley Livestock. Steve and Jenna Lingley brought Shorthorn cattle into the operation in 2000. They seen the potential in the maternal and carcass merit of the Shorthorn breed. Most of the base of the Shorthorn herd goes back to Eionmor Stock Farm, however they have brought in many different genetics from across North America. When the Lingley’s brought Shorthorn cattle into their program they asked commercial producers what Shorthorn cattle needed in order for them to utilize the breed. With the feedback provided to the Lingley’s they’ve been striving to produce Shorthorn cattle that meet the demands of the commercial producers requirements.

The brand of success

Our goal is to produce cattle that are functional, trouble free and produce well without intervention. Second chances are not in our program. This has provided us with a core herd of trouble free cattle that we can produce cattle for other purebred and commercial producers.

Shorthorn cattle were introduced to the Lingley’s by Jenna, Steve’s wife, in 2000. Growing up on a commercial beef cattle operation using Shorthorn females as a base, Jenna seen the huge opportunity of utilizing this breed properly. Shorthorn cows are the hidden gem in the cattle industry.

Our goal is to produce Shorthorn cattle with more production value, performance, muscling and do-ability. Foot structure and general soundness is extremely important to our program. If the animal has any structural integrity issues, they will not be kept.

Our cattle are run in a commercial environment, as most of our customers are commercial cattlemen and women. Unthriftiness, calving issues, foot issues and docility issues are not tolerated. The cattle have to be about as trouble free as we can make them in order to continue on in our operation. Fertility is another point that we watch extremely closely. Our cattle, both commercial and purebred, are exposed for 45 days. If a female is open, she will be shipped.

We invite you to tour the cattle, see the sires and how we manage them. The coffee is always on!
